Financial Issues Facing Utica Community Schools

We were asked by the district during our December 14th PTO General Meeting to take an active part in learning more about the financial issues facing Utica Community Schools.   As parents we need our voices to be heard to make a change.  We have all seen the continued cuts to programs, supplies, etc and there is only more to come if we do not take a stand.

Please click on the link below to read a full discription of the financial issues facing Utica Community Schools.

Here are a few important guides about letter writing to lawmakers taken primarily from the Michigan Citizen’s Guide.
  • Always include your name, address and/or e-mail address.
  • Use Your Own Words – while a template is provided, lawmakers indicate that a thoughtful, factual and well-reasoned letter has a stronger impact on them.
  • Be sure to understand the issue. Use the background materials to become familiar with the school funding issue.
  • Be Brief.
  • Give reasons for your position. Indicate how it impacts you as a parent, homeowner, business owner or community leader.
  • Be constructive.
  • Be respectful and indicate you appreciate their work and service.
